Two years ago, during the second performance of ‘de Slag of Grolle’, Willem te Molder and Annet were in Barcelona. While the Spaniards were driven out of Groenlo, they sat themselves in the Spanish sun and enjoyed a nice autumn. In Barcelona a great idea was born for a big ‘Slag om Grolle’ project. Much of that battle was reflected in photographs posted on the internet and that fact, together with "You are up for a new challenge",  as Annet told Willem, was the decisive factor.
There was only a report in pixels, but no physical picture of ‘de Slag of Grolle’ . So it was obvious that Willem would make a large painting of the battle. Just paint on canvas.

That was the plan. And not just a big painting, but a really big painting. Called a polyptych, multifaceted. Twenty paintings of 100 by 120 cm. Depicting ‘het Staatse leger' advancing towards the city.

But Willem also wanted to paint together with 80 amateur painters. That led to the idea of same scene not divided in twenty, but in eighty parts. Eighty different people who will be painting panels depicting a scene from the 80-years war. In four hours time! In the old Calixtuskerk at the the market in Groenlo.
A large painting of 24 square meters on the left in the church opposite to a painting of equal size and the same topic.

On Friday, October 22 from 12:00 to 16:00 a 80-panel painting will  actually be painted in four hours time in Calixtuskerk. Eighty amateur painters will get this job done!

For sure this Friday afternoon it will be an unusual, beautiful, new, stylish, artistic and unexpected experiment. Come and see!
