Your students can now experience the siege of the town ‘Grol’ that took place during the summer of 1627. A real-life historical-cultural reenactment provides a unique opportunity to bring lessons about local and regional history to life!

The 8th edition of the Battle of Grolle will take place on October 21, 22 and 23. During these three days and nights, the entire town of Groenlo will be transported back in time to back in time to 1627. Experience the battles and historical atmosphere of this key war-time year, when the Catholic Spanish were forced to surrender this important fortified city to the Dutch States Army.

This educational excursion provides students with the chance to hear, see and feel what life was like during this significant historical period. Not only will this be an enjoyable excursion, but students can also better develop a keen historical perspective and understanding  of the events that shaped European history. This will truly be an excursion that they will never forget!  

The Slag om Grolle (Battle of Grolle) is more than just the military aspects of history. The streets are filled with a variety of historical activities including markets, crafts, performances, and games. There are also several activities geared specifically towards our younger visitors.  

Schools are offered a special price for tickets to visit the the Slag om Grolle (Battle of Grolle) on Friday, October 21st: €3 for primary school students, €5.95 for secondary students (12 years and older), and €5.95 for supervisors.
