Behind the scenes, the organization of the Battle of Grolle is already busy preparing for next year’s 9th edition. The Battle of Grolle 2024 will take place on October 25, 25, and 27.

This is a re-enactment of 1627 seige and capitulation of the town is re-enacted, ending the period of Spanish occupation. The re-enactors are not actors, but historical enthusiasts who fully immerse themselves in the proper historical costumes and settings. For this event, they come from far and wide, both in- and outside of Europe, to go back in time to 17th century Groenlo.

Each year the events grows, also thanks to the commitment of the locals and keen visitors, who truly get to experience what life was like in 1627. Historical traders, craftsmen and musicians always make sure they register early for the opportunity to take part in this event.

Volunteers who want to contribute to the continuing success of the Battle of Grolle should contact the organization. “We are always looking for people with a variety of skills, including sales, project management, and marketing,” according to secretary Tristan Naber.

A few statsitics: 1,500 reenactors from 18 countries, 1,500 people portraying daily life, more than 100 craftsmen, traders, and artists. Behind the scenes: 150 active volunteers.Go to the website slagomgrolle.nl or the social media channels for more information about the Slag om Grolle.
